It was a contest which the hosts lead at one stage by fourteen points, the introduction of sub Robert Kelly who scored three goals added much needed punch to the attack plus a much better performance all round. They now play Swinford in the next round. U13 League Crossmolina U13 team got their league off to a winning start against Charlestown in St Tiernan’s Park on Monday last, after trailing by two points at half time 3 - 2 to 2 - 3. The Deel siders got their act together with more direct football and better combination to run out comfortable winners in the end by 4 - 14 to 4 - 4. Substitute Kevin Keane came off the bench and scored two goals late in the game. A special thanks to all the collectors Western Alzheimers Dance The annual western Alzheimers fund raising dance which was held in Hiney’s Upper Deck was one of the most successful to date with over €7,000 raised. Basketball News Crossmolina Tigers Girls Basketball Club resumes on Thursday September 10th Old Mobile Phones The Jack and Jill foundation in conjunction in Promethean will give an interactive white board to Crossmolina N.S. when they collect 300 mobile phones/handsets. If you have an old mobile phone please drop it in to the school now that it is open or to Kevin Loftus Drapers who will take them in for the School Sympathy Paddy Joe Loftus R I P The death occurred on Thursday 27th August at his residence of Paddy Joe Loftus Creevy Castlehill Ballina. His remains were removed from Hiney’s funeral home to the Church of Our Lady Kilmurray. Burial took place in the adjoining cemetery after requiem mass. Paddy Joe was pre deceased by his sisters Mary and Bernadette and brother Willie. He is survived by his wife Margaret, sons Joseph Louth, Michael Creevy, daughter Collette Deerpark Crossmolina, daughter - in - law Sarah, grandsons, brother Fr Kevin Easkey, sisters Phil Clarke and Elizbeth McGovern Chicago Imelda McGuire Enniscrone, inlaws, nieces, nephews, relations, friends and neighbours. May he Rest In Peace.
The death occurred suddenly in Leister on Monday August 17th of Kathleen Thornton nee McGuinness formerly of Ballaghamuck Crossmolina. Burial took place in Leister. Kathleen is survived by her husband Tom, son Sean, daughter - in law, grand children, brothers Paddy Ballaghamuck, Eddie and Silvie England, sisters Bernie, Mary McGrath and Carmel Melody England, Christine Carney and Pauline Ball Knock brothers -in - law, sisters -in - law, nieces, nephews, relations and friends. Details are on the Groups and Organisations link on this site Community Games News There was no medal for Cian O’Boyle Ballina Rd or Emma Loftus in the All Ireland community games in Athlone last week. Both advanced to the Semi-Final which was very creditable for U10 years, considering there was talent there from all over Ireland Cathal and Ollie have retired Cathal Prior (38 years) and Ollie Bolton (36 years) have both retired from the teaching staff of St Tiernan's College Crossmolina. They will be sorely missed by the staff and pupils as they were very courteous and helpful to everybody. They are wished all the best in their retirement, may they enjoy good health and enjoyment from now on - they deserve it ! Golf Outing Crossmolina Golf outing in Ballina on Wednesday 26th August. John McAndrew Honoured John McAndrew the Bangor native who played on the first Crossmolina team that won the County Senior title in 1949 and who was honoured by the club in 1999 on the 50th anniversary of that title. John went on to win two All-Ireland senior medals with Mayo in 1950 and '51 and National League in 1954. The Mayo Emigrant liaison committee is to honour a number of people as part of the 10th Anniversary, celebrating the Irish diaspora and honouring those who made a significant contribution while living abroad. Dr John is one such person, the presentation will take place in the Welcome Inn Hotel Castlebar on Friday night September 11th with the Legendary Kerry footballer Mick O’Connell to make the presentations
