The festival committee are working tirelessly behind the scenes to produce this year’s brochure, which will be packed with exciting activities! The deadline for printing is nearing, so to ensure that you and/or your company are included as sponsors in this year’s brochure, kindly forward your remittance as soon as possible. An exciting new addition to this year’s festival is a weekend of traditional music workshops and setdancing workshops. Fiddle, button accordion, banjo, whistle/flute and percussion. BAG PACKING
Crossmolina Bord na nOg thank everyone who helped with the bag packing in Dunnes Stores, Ballina last weekend. To everybody ho contributed so generously and to the Management and staff for all their help, a sincere thank you.

DEEL ROVERS GAA
Your response to the Club’s promotion of Development Draw tickets in recent years has been excellent and the club wishes to sincerely thank you. This is evident from the fine facilities we have available so far but there is still lots more work to be done. In the coming days, however, you will receive a ticket in the post from the club for which we once again appeal for your support. If you do not receive a tickets you can purchase one by contacting Florrie Hegarty at 31346 or Cathal Prior at 31425.

TABLE QUIZ IN AID OF PLAYSCHOOL
A table quiz will be held in Hiney’s Bar, Crossmolina, on Friday, May 4, at 9pm. Following on the success of last year’s quiz (which as widely enjoyed by all) the committee of St Tiernan’s Community Playschool are hosting the night. There will be novelty rounds and something for everyone during the quiz. Teams of four. Proceeds in aid of the playschool. MAY MORNING DEW “Summer is coming, oh, summer is her, With the trees all so green and the sky bright and clear; And the birds they are singing their oved ones to woo, And the wild flowers are springing in the May morning dew”. Today, Tuesday, May 1, is celebrated as the beginning of summer. Dedicated to the Virgin Mary, it is an Irish custom to have rimroses (May flowers) strewn on thresholds on this special morning to welcome her. Everywhere is fresh and full of promise and the cent of flowers and new mown grass fills the air. The hawthorn tree comes into full blossom and is a wonderful sight to behold. Times past various superstitions or ‘pisreogs’ associated with May Day was widely practised but these have all been forgotten now.

ANNUAL DAY RETREAT
The annual one day retreat to St Patrick’s Purgatory, Lough Derg, Co Donegal organised by Roisin Mullen and Teresa Bourke will take place on next Tuesday, May 8. Bus will leave from Main Street, Crossmolina at 7.30am. Names of intended pilgrims to be given to either of the above ladies, or handed in to the Old Post Office or Social Services Centre, Chapel Street before May 5. The cost in Lough Derg which includes boat fare, light lunch and tea/coffee is €27. Bus fare is extra. MONSTER BINGO A monster bingo will be held in Ballina Sports and Leisure Centre on Monday, May 21, at 8.30pm, with a prizefund of €4,000. Full house on main pool is €800 and extra payout for goalposts on standard games. For more details call 096-78984. Book winners for May 21 are Sarah McDonald, Mary Gallagher, and Dermot Barrett.

LATE SEAN MAUGHAN
The death occurred on Tuesday, April 17, after a short illness at Mayo General Hospital of Sean Maughan, Muingnabo, Rossport, Ballina. His remains were removed from Healy’s Funeral Home, Barnatra to the Star of the Sea Church, Cornboy. Burial took place in Crossmolina Cemetery on Friday after Requiem Mass. Sean is survived by his wife Susan, daughter Rita Judge, Scullibeen, Crossmolina, son Paul, Ballina, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brothers Michael, Knockanillaun, Ballina, David, Moylaw, Crossmolina, sisters Mary Murray, New York, Evelyn Heffernan, Carrowgarve, Crossmolina, and Nora Loftus, Carrowkilleen, Crossmolina, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relations and friends. May he rest in peace.

KILMURRY CARDS
The 25 Drive in aid of Kilmurray Youth Soccer Club that was to be held in The Musical Bridge Inn, Bellacorrick on Friday, April 27, has been deferred due to a bereavement. The game will now take place on Friday, May 4, at 9.30pm. First Prize 2 Lambs. Tickets €10 each and can be purchased by contacting Finola Gilroy at (087) 6882764, Martina Hegarty at (087) 9148111, The Musical Bridge Inn, Bellacorrick or Maughan’s Bar, Crossmolina.

SCHOOL MEETING
Crossmolina NSPA meeting will be held on this Wednesday night, May 2, in Hineys at 9pm. CROSSMOLINA LOTTO RESULTS There was no winner of the Crossmolina GAA lotto jackpot on Saturday night, April 21. The numbers drawn were 4, 10, 12 and 24. Two punters matched three numbers Rosanna Loftus, Mullenmore Road, Crossmolina, and Mary Jordan, Enniscoe, Castlehill, Ballina each win €75. The draw took place in Christy’s. Next weeks jackpot is €2,300 and many thanks for your continued support.

MARY WALSH RIP
The death occurred on Wednesday, April 25, at Mayo General Hospital of Mary Walsh, Creevy, Castlehill, Ballina and Knockmarla, Lahardane. Her remains were removed from her nephew Gerard Granaghans house on Thursday evening to St Patrick’s Church, Lahardane. Burial took place in Addergoole cemetery on Friday after Requiem Mass. Mary is survived by her nieces, nephews, relations and many friends. May she rest in peace.

MINOR LEAGUE
Crossmolina carved out a hard earned four points to win away to Westport last weekend in the county minor league. The final score was Crossmolina 1-14 to Westport 1-10. Crossmolina team; Aidan O’Malley, Darren Barrett, Joseph Keane, Shane Gallagher, Robert Kelly, Stephen Duffy, Shane Granahan, Cathal Carolan, Brendan Birrane, David O’Boyle, Barry O’Malley, Christopher Myles, Brian Kearns, Jamsie O’Brien, Cormac Fox. Subs Declan Gillespie, Enda Jordan and Kieran Traynor. U-16 LEAGUE Breaffy were deserving winners of this county U-16 league tie in St Tiernans Park on Thursday evening last, with a final score of Breaffy 2-5 to Crossmolina 1-6.

The goals were scored by Shane Moran, a penalty and David Gavin, points from Conor O’Shea, John Daly, Daniel McDonald and Fionan Smyth and Ronan Judge replied for the Deelsiders with points each to leave the half time score 2-3 to 0-2 points from Mark Fox (two) and one from Ronan Judge reduced the lead before John Daly and Daniel Mannion kicked points each. Crossmolina came back with a goal from Mark Fox and a point from David Timoney could have snatched a couple of more scores were it not for some poor shot selection and passing.

Results of the game held on April 19 were Top Score, TC McGuinness, 1st Gent, Lizzie Moran, 2nd Gent, Terry McGreevy, 1st Lady, Noreen Hughes, 2nd Lady, Maureen Gallagher, Longest Sitting, Mary O’Boyle, Lowest score, Phyllis Doherty. Raffle winners were Tom Ketterick, Terry McGreevy and Ita Gallagher. Whist drive is held Thursday evenings at 8.30pm in the Social Services Centre, Chapel Street. Everyone welcome.

DEEL RAMBLERS
Next Monday, May 7, Crossmolina Walking Club will continue their weekly walk in Glenmore area leaving from outside the Church at 9.45am. The walks are 2 hours approx and the fee is €3. All levels are welcome. Tel 087-1214570 / 087-6879128.
