Crossmolina Tidy Towns committee in conjunction with Mayo North East Leader Partnership commissioned a strategic tidy towns plan to guide the annual work of the Tidy Towns Committee, with the aim of improving our marks in the annual competition and to improve Crossmolina.
A copy of the plan is available to view from the Library on Main Street.
One of the suggestions put forward is that all the town organisations should look within their group to see what they can do to enhance the town. As the Tidy Towns group is very small it is impossible to achieve the aims on its own. If you can spare just one hour per week in any dicipline it would be greatly appreciated. Please contact a committee member with offers.

abaca photography studio, owned by Ciaran Duignan opened in Crossmolina in July this year. The bright, modern shop front is a very welcome feature as it adds a new dimension to the well established shops in Main Street.

Ciaran studied photography in Dublin and following many years working in commercial and architectural photography he decided to move to the west of Ireland in 2007/08.

Ciaran is interested in creative photography with portrait, weddings, large events and musicians among his main specialties. He has a keen interest in contemporary landscape fine art photography and has many images from the local area and from all over Ireland.
We wish him Good Luck in his new venture.

UPDATED
On Wednesday afternoon, 22nd of July 2009, The Abbeytown/Abbeyview Resident’s Association merged with Crossmolina AFC to host a Traditional Sports Day and Barbeque within the grounds of the Abbeyview Estate.
This event was run in conjunction with the Crossmolina Festival and was organised efficiently by both the Residents Association Committee and the Soccer Club Committee, with the support of the Festival Committee. The terrible weather the evening prior to the event meant that setting up for it had to be postponed until the next morning.
The sun shone positively on the Abbeytown/Abbeyview estate the following morning and preparations for the Sports/Barbeque went into overdrive with everybody involved in high spirits but looking forward anxiously towards the afternoon and praying that the rain kept away.

But we did not have to worry on that score as the sun shone all afternoon. There was a great turnout of adults and children and many participated in the sports which catered for young partakers and ‘not so young’!.
The BBQ was complimentary and was ecologically and capably run by two well-regarded chefs, one being an All Ireland BBQ chef and with the help of local estate residents.
The sweet shop, bouncing castles and face painting was also complimentary on the day and local DJ James Carolan provided the music.
The Abbeytown/Abbeyview Residents Association Committee and the Crossmolina AFC Committee would like to take this opportunity to thank every one who sponsored this event, the Festival Committee for their collaboration, Stewards/Help for their services on the day and all who attended and contributed to this event.
Everybody, both adults & children, had a magnificent day with music, fun and sports and we are already looking forward to next year!!
Mr. Peter Flynn, Chairman – (087) 2162888; Ms. Finola Gilroy, Secretary – (087) 6882764 Mrs. Pauline Davidson, Treasurer – (087) 7615981

UPDATED The Traders Race, usually held on the opening night of the festival, had a successful transition to Monday night.
Of course the dry evening was an added bonus but the atmosphere was high on anticipation as the local businesses competed against each other in a highly charged event.
Photos courtesy of abaca photography Chapel Street was closed off and lively commentary by Enda Judge guaranteed the participants were encouraged and the crowd was kept well informed.
Those gathered were given an added show when Kevin Connor drove the Fire Brigade down the street and proceeded to hose Liam Cawley with water - much to Liam's surprise but to the delight of the crowd.

A great night of storytelling, music, song and recitation was hosted by the Crossmolina Cemetery Committee in Lynotts Pub, Mullenmore Street on the first night of the festival.

The renowned Seanachai, Vincent Pierse from Knockrockery, Co Roscommon held the attention of a large audience with his repertoire of stories and recitations. He was accompanied by two wonderful local musicians Sean Gallagher and Paddy Gilroy from Keenagh. A lively sing song by our regular, local entertainers followed the storytelling.

A surprise song from Kevin Rowland (of Dexy's Midnight Runners fame) received a rapturous applause from a grateful crowd.

UPDATED A dry, sunny evening added to the great atmosphere for the opening parade of the 2009 Crossmolina Community Festival.

The streets were lined with locals and visitors who viewed a very lively and varied number of floats. Many organisations and businesses went to great lengths in their preparation and presentation and in turn their efforts were acknowledged by the response from the crowd. Applause and laughter followed the parade from St Mary's Park into the town, across the bridge and finished in Chapel Street.

The through traffic to Bangor Erris and Belmullet was halted for almost an hour but the Gardai and the stewards managed to minimise the disruption. Photo courtesy of abaca photography
