DISPLAY OF BOG OAK
The library is having a display of Bog Oak by J Gannon, Curry. Bog Oak is a rare timber which is excavated from deep underground, usually a by – produce of turf cutting, or when bog-land is drained for agricultural use.
The Wood varies in age, usually ranging between 2,000 and 6,000 years old. The wood has been preserved due to the unique conditions of the turf bogs, which waterlog the wood and keep it free from oxygen and sunlight which would cause it to decay.
The wood is cleaned and polished with beeswax to give these beautiful sculptures. Why not call to the Library to view or purchase one of these unique pieces.
