Just thought i would say hello as my mother Una Murphy, her maiden name was Munnelly, grew up in Crossmolina. My Grandmother was from the Browns family but not sure if they are from Crossmolina or the surrounding area. It's my mothers 70th birthday in July and she's still fit and well and has three sons including myself, i'm the eldest. My contact e-mail is Kobain@live.com, best wishes, Sean.

I just found this page. What a pleasure! My grandparents came from Crossmolina/Ballina in the 1870s and 1880s and settled in Denver, Colorado, USA, where I grew up. My grandparents found their way to Colorado because my grandfather (Michael James O'Hara) reportedly had an aunt Margaret who had married a man who had helped build the railroad out from New York. The story is that Margaret-- "Greta"-- and her husband operated a trading post/general store in Alamosa. My grandfather was appalled and terrified by the violence in this typical frontier town and hightailed it to Denver, where he was the doorman at the Denver Athletic Club for many years. His wife was Mary Ann McCauley. They had seven children, including my dad, Edward.

Greetings! It was lovely to come across this page. I visited family in Crossmolina 14 years ago and saw family from my mother's side of the family -- the Murphys and our cousins the Naughtons - Nula and Ben and Nan, and John and his family. I am so glad my parents were able to visit also, as we sent them here for part of their 50th wedding anniversary trip to Ireland. They were world travelers and it was their favorite trip of their lives. E-mail me if you like, at yovovi@mail.com I will stay in touch and hope to return soon! God Bless!

St Tiernan’s Cemetery

Preparation has commenced for the laying of paths in the front section of St Tiernan’s Cemetery, Crossmolina. The aim of the project is:
• To improve on the overall appearance of the cemetery
• To have easier and safer access to individual graves
• To minimise the growth of weeds and grass along paths and between graves
• To help make the upkeep and maintenance of the cemetery more manageable
As a result of this work, the immediate grave areas and the over all appearance of the cemetery will change.
The cemetery committee is aware that some concerns may be raised and ask that these be directed to them via The Enterprise Centre on +353 96 30935.
The next Cemetery meeting will be held in the Social Services Centre at 8pm on Wednesday 19th November 2008. All are welcome to attend.

Great site. Crossmolina is a lovely scenic place if only it didn't rain so much! I visited there recently to buy a car from a local person and made a weekend trip out of it. The car turned out to be a UK import and written off, the seller was shocked as they didn't know. Such a pity, very nice people but it was almost worth the trip. I recommend a http://www.cartell.ie car check to anyone buying a car. I hope to visit there again soon. Maybe next year for the festival (if the weather ever picks up)

Hiya Seamus

How funny, I just told my dad about Ruby's dad being called Bredy and it's taken 32 years for me to discover that yes, my granddads nick neame was in fact Bredy!!! You learn something new every day!!!! It turns out that he was nick named that due to his sister Ruby saying when he was born "do you want to come see my new bredy (meaning to say Brother!) How funny is that!
Yes the school is in a sorry sight I'm sad to say, and the farm looks just as bad! My email address is findtigger@hotmail.com so if you email me I will happily send you some of the photo!
Once again Dad said to say Hi!

Seamus, Just rang my dad! He said he remembers you and that I was wrong, it was his sister Ruby that you used to play with! The said to say hello and that he remembers your mother and Jim well, even after they moved. It was his dad (my granddad) that brought the land off Jim! Sadly Ruby passed away about 4 years ago now but her family are over in Braffey. I took some photos of the land, school and road out there if you would like me to email them across to you??

Hiya . . . Yes I am related!!! But there were 2 Ruby Robinson's and if you lived there till 1944 then I'm guessing it's my Great-Auntie Ruby your talking about. She had a brother Charles (Charlie?) He was my Granddad and had 7 children - Ruby being one of my dad's Sister. My dad was born in 1942 which confirms that it is His aunite and my great auntie that you used to play with!
Did you know my Grandad as well???
