Re: Pride of Place Crossmolina 2009 – Town Centre.
Dear Proprietor/Householder,
Following Crossmolina’s success in the “Pride of Place” Awards in 2008, and the first-rate effort made by all in the community in promoting our town, it was decided to hold a local “Pride of Place” during the summer months of 2009. The effort made last year was outstanding and very much appreciated by the whole of the community. This was evident, at that time, in the positive feedback we received and suggestions that it should be repeated this year.
In light of this, we encourage owners of all street properties in the town to take a fresh look at how their house, shop/premises is seen by the passing public and encourage you to enhance your street frontage through the use of flowers, flower baskets, paint work, power hosing, lettering, signage and window displays etc. The improvements made last year, in the town, were outstanding. It gave a sense of pride and appreciation in what we have to offer our residents and our visitors and we would like to develop this community spirit further this year. The Pride of Place Committee has decided to hold a competition within the streets of the town and we encourage you to participate.
Adjudication will be undertaken, on two occasions, by an auditor from outside the area who has no connection with the Crossmolina area. This adjudication will take place sometime during the month of August and again during the month of September 2009. There will be 3 categories for adjudication, which are:
1- Best Frontage of Business;
2- Best Frontage of Residential Property;
3- Best Kept Street;
The winner from each of the above categories will be announced and notified in October 2009 and the presentation of certificates will be made at the Tidy Towns annual get together later on this year. Next year, it is envisaged that the competition will be extended to the road properties and housing estates within the Crossmolina area.
