Patrick. Lyons Daly RIP
The death occurred on Thursday 11th January of Patrick. Lyons Daly Church View Crossmolina. His remains reposed at Hiney’s Funeral home on Tuesday evening with removal to St.Tiernan’s Church, Crossmolina. Requiem Mass on Wednesday with Burial afterwards in Crossmolina Cemetery. Patrick son of the late Martin is survived by his mother Mary, brother’s Jim, Marty and Sean, sister’s Anne, Frances, Carmel, Marina, Regina, Helena, sisters – in – law, brothers – in – law, Aunt Francis, uncle Paddy, nieces, nephews, relations, extended family, friends and neighbours. May he rest in peace.
Festival Short Listed for Award
Congratulations to Crossmolina St Patricks day committee for the St Patricks night festival who have been shortlisted for the All Ireland Community and Council Awards presented by IPB Insurance and LAMA in the category Best Arts/Culture Initiative (Including Festival and Events) and also to John Cooney and Seamus Jordan who have been shortlisted in the Category of Community Volunteers Of The Year. The winners, representing their counties, will be announced by RTÉ’s Marty Morrissey at a gala awards ceremony at Croke Park Stadium on Saturday 3rd February 2018.

Gortnor Abbey U16 Girls in All -IrelandWell done to the U16 Gortnor Abbey Girls basketball team on reaching the All-Ireland Cup final and the All-Ireland League semi-final. The girls travelled to Dundalk for their first cup game, beating St Louis of Dundalk by 13 points. They went on to win a home game against Larkins CC, the final score being 50-22. For their semi-final, they played Colaiste Pobail Setanta in University of Limerick. An intense first half left the score 26-20 in favour of Gortnor Abbey. A one sided second half saw Gortnor Abbey come out with a final score of 54-26, which led them to the All-Ireland Cup Final in Tallaght playing St Colmcilles Knocklyon on Tuesday 23rd of January.
Following on from their success in the Cup Competition the Gortnor Abbey girls made the most of their home advantage in the All-Ireland League play-offs on Saturday January 13th. They played three games in total. The first game was against Mohill Community School where the final score was 41-21. They went on to win their second game against Wilsons Hospital dominating the game from start to finish, leaving them nearly scoreless with a scoreline of 59-4. The girls proceeded to win their final match against Loreto Cavan, finishing the long day with a score of 62-26. After coming out on top of Pool A play-offs, the girls will advance to the All-Ireland League semi-final in Tallaght This game will take place on January 31st against St Marys, Macroom.
Festival News.
The St. Patrick’s Festival Of Lights 2018 will have the Electric Light Parade on March 17th at 7:30pm and a “LIGHT the NIGHT” 5K Run on March 16th.
