Festival News.

Thank you to everyone that supported the annual duck race.  The Tops Of The Town begins on Sat. May 11th in Cawleys, Rakestreet and is open to individuals or groups up to five, singing, dancing, playing music, comedy etc.  For details or to enter call 087 9120680. €100 for the winner on May 11th and €1000 in prize money on the final night.  The next festival meeting is on Tues. April 30th at 8pm in the Enterprise Centre, everyone welcome, come along if you want any input in this years Nephin Festival as all festival events will be finalised before mid May.

 

The Late Bernie Magner.

The death occurred peacefully on Thursday 18th April at Mayo University Castlebar of Bernard (Bernie) Magner Keenagh Beg Ballina formerly of St Patricks Ace Crossmolina and Ferbane Co Offaly. His remains reposed at Hiney’s Funeral Home on Monday evening with removal to the Church of the Holy Souls Keenagh burial on Tuesday in Crossmolina Cemetery after requiem mass. Bernie is survived by his wife Mary family Catherine Roscrea, Eamon Caragh Co Kildare, Isobel Abbeyleix, Martina Abbeyleix, sisters, daughter – in – law Deirdre, sons – in – law Paul and Pat grandchildren, Ciara, Cillian,  Meave, Aine, Sadhbh and Conor, brothers – in – law, sisters – in – law, nephews, nieces, relations, friends and neighbours. May he rest in peace

Breaffy 1 – 16 Crossmolina 3 – 9 

Breaffy edged out visitors Crossmolina in the county Junior B Championship on Sunday week in a high scoring well contested game played ideal weather conditions. The winners held the upper hand in the opening half leading at the break by 0-12 to 1-5 Dean Loftus scoring the Crossmolina goal. After the break Crossmolina came more into the game a goal from a penalty from David Howley and another from sub Liam Donohoe in the 55th minuet tied the score but Breaffy snatched a late point from a free to win by a point

There was no winner of the Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club Lotto Jackpot on Saturday night 20th April. Michael Launching His Campaign

Cllr Michael Loftus is launching his campaign for the Local Election on Friday May 3rd at 8pm in the new Culture and Exhibition Centre Crossmolina. Mindspace Outreach service in Ballina FRC

Mindspace Mayo offers a support service to young people (15-25yrs) presenting with anything from common concerns (e.g. dealing with break-up, exam stress, bullying) to young people with emerging mental health difficulties such as mild depression and anxiety.  The outreach service will run one day a week (Monday) and is based in the Ballina Family Resource Centre. Ballina FRC Parent & Toddler Group

The Parent & Toddler group takes place every Thursday from 10.00am to 12.00 noon in the centre.  This group is open to all parents, Grandparents and childminders to come along with their child/children and meet new people over a cuppa and a chat.  Various activities take place and new members are always welcome. Crossmolina 0 – 13 Moy Davitts 1 -6 

Crossmolina grabbed two vital League points with four points win over visitors Moy Davitts in a game that was closely contested for 45 minuets Gerard Haran opened the scoring with a point For Crossmolina which was quickly cancelled out by Brian Heneghan and Conor Byrne for Moy Davitts. Fionan Duffy struck three points in a five minuets spell Christopher McGlynn replied with a pointed free and Brian Heneghan and Tom Cafferty exchanged points before the break to leave the half time score 0-5 to 0-4 in the Deel-Siders favour. J.P.Mulhern extended the lead with point in the thirty second minuets. A flowing Moy Davitts move resulted in Conor Byrne cutting in from the left hand side and rifling the ball to back of the net past a helpless Patrick Loftus Fionan Duffy drove over the equalizer minuets later Brian Heneghan grabbed two points in the 40 and 43 minuets in between Kevin Mulhern pointed a 45 Crossmolina held the visitors scoreless for the remainder of the half and tacked on five points from Fionan Duffy John Garrett and three from Fionan Duffy in the last ten minuets to secure a vital win. News - Thursday 18th April 19

The Candles of Remembrance.

Ceremony during the Festival of Lights was a new event added for 2019. The people of Crossmolina placed the names of their dearly deceased into the boxes provided and those names were remembered at the mass preceding the event.  On the evening the candles were lit for each person and let float down the River Deel with all donations received going towards the fantastic work done by the St Tiernans Cemetery committee, the amount was €936.68.  Thank you to everyone that added names to the list and made donations.

Irish Blood Transfusion service wish to thank all who attended their visit to Crossmolina Parish Hall 100 Units were donated, also thanks to the Hall Committee and all who helped on the night with refreshments  

 

U16 League

Crossmolina 5-14 Burrishoole 4-11 

Crossmolina U16 team continued their good recent form with a comfortable win over Burrishoole in Newport on Tuesday last, but it was the home side who set the early pace with a Peter Doherty goal Alfie Maloney and Niall Coggins replied the goals for the Deel-Siders.  Eoin McNulty Niall McGreal pointed before Jack Walsh raised two green flags in the space of five minuets in the 20th and 25th minuets both sides flashed over points before the break to leave the half time score 3-8 to 2-4 in favour of the West Mayo boys. Crossmolina introduced a couple of subs at the break and for the next twenty minuets they dominated scoring three goals one from Luke Rowland and two from Diarmuid Walsh with a string of points from James Williams Brian Hopkins Luke Rowland Eoin Murphy and Diarmuid Walsh. Burrishoole came back with a late burst of scores from Niall McGreal James Keane and goal that was deflected into the net of a defender after Conor Reynolds had made a couple of fine saves.

The Passion—in Drama 

(Stations of the Cross) Good Friday 8pm Crossmolina Town Centre.  The scene will be set to depict the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus often came to pray. The crowd will gather along the banks of the River Deel in Crossmolina town where Jesus will meet his Disciples.  He will receive his Cross from Pilot and carry that Cross through the town of Crossmolina reflecting on the 14 Stations of the Cross to St       Tiernan’s Church.  The Passion will be presented by our local Drama, Pantomime & Foroige groups.  Come and join us for an evening of reflection and prayer with our community on the way of the cross.

 

2.Easter Sunday Dawn Mass takes place in Kilmurry Cemetery @ 6am

3.The Passion: Final rehearsal in Crossmolina Church on Holy Thursday after the Mass of the Lord’s Supper at 8.45.

Died in Co Clare.

The death occurred peacefully on Thursday 4th April of Kathleen O’Donovan nee McGuinness Clonroadmore Ennis Co Clare formerly of Crossmolina. Her remains reposed at her residence Tivoli House Clonroadmore Ennis on Saturday evening requiem mass on in Ss Peter and Paul Cathedral Ennis on Sunday with burial afterwards in Templemaley Cemetery. Kathleen was predeceased by her husband Christy is survived by her daughters Marie Gilmore Galway, Rosaleen Galway, sons John Tullamore, Chris Ennis and Andrew Boston, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother Sean McGuinness  Lecarrow Crossmolina, sister Una Cafferkey Bray, son-in law Martin, daughters – in – law Theresa, Helen and Deirdre, nephews, nieces, relations, friends and neighbours. May she rest in peace.

Crossmolina suffered a four points defeat at home to Ballintubber 4 -8 to 2- 10 on Thursday last in the County U14 League  three goals  in the opening 20 minuets at times when Crossmolina were coming more into the game. They did come back to just trail by a point at the break 3 – 1 to 1-6 thanks to accuracy of James Maheady who score 1-4 with Kyle Gallagher and Jack Naughton notched points each. Lotto Results.

There was no winner of the Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club Lotto Jackpot on Saturday night 30th March. The numbers drawn were 5 – 6 – 26 – 32. Three punters matched three numbers Joe and Maura McHale Rathnamagh Crossmolina, John and Teresa Moyles Ballina Rd Crossmolina Des and Pat Lavin Kiltmagh each win €50. Crossmolina 2- 13 Naomh Padraig 1 – 12 

Crossmolina emerged four points winner in this county Minor League tie at Tiernans Park after a titanic struggle. In a game where their was only a score separating the sides until Conor Caden grabbed a goal in the 20th minuet and repeated the dose eight minuets later when he converted a penalty after Niall Coggins was upended in the square to leave the half time score 2-6 to 0-6. The visitors kept the score board ticking over with four points from Kieran Cooney and one each from Padraig Breslin and Luke O’Shea in between Conor Caden and Edward Gough replied points each to leave just two points separating the sides in the 51st minuet up popped Padraig Breslin with a stunning goal to give his side a one point advantage. It was then the Deel-Siders really came to life kicking five points two long range frees from Edward Gough and one from open play  and points each from Diarmuid Walsh Conor Caden sealed a hard earned two league points

Kiltane scored a deserved six points win over Crossmolina in Bangor in the first round of the county Division 2 league. After a closely contested first half possession wise Crossmolina trailed by three points 0-6 to 0-3 having missed some great scoring chances and were to pay dearly after the break in the eight minuet Mickie Sweeney grabbed a goal and minuets later Adam Carabine netted from the penalty spot their after that visitors were playing catch up and Kiltane ran out comfortable winners

Passion in Drama.

(Stations of the Cross) Good Friday 8pm Crossmolina Town Centre.  The scene will be set to depict the Garden of Gethsemane where Jesus often came to pray. The crowd will gather along the banks of the River Deel in Crossmolina town where Jesus will meet his Disciples.  He will receive his Cross from Pilot and carry that Cross through the town of Crossmolina reflecting on the 14 Stations of the Cross to St Tiernan’s Church.  The Passion will be presented by our local drama and pantomime groups.  Come and join us for an evening of reflection and prayer with our community on the way of the cross

 

Ballina FRC Parent & Toddler Group.

The Parent & Toddler group takes place every Thursday from 10.00am to 12.00 noon in the centre.  This group is open to all parents, Grandparents and childminders to come along with their child/children and meet new people over a cuppa and a chat.  Various activities take place and new members are always welcome. Crossmolina U16 team scorer a deserved 2-17 to 3-9 win over Balla in the county League on a very wet miserable windy evening in Balla last Tuesday. Diarmuid Walshe’s 11 points from frees and open play saw the Deel-Siders gain two valuable League points
