The Mayo PPN Countywide Information Evening

The Mayo PPN Countywide Information Evening will take place on Wednesday 7th February, at 7pm in the Tennis Club, Castlebar.

Mike Hannon, Project Manager of the County Mayo Foundation, will give a presentation about the types of community projects the Foundation grant aids, and how to apply to them for a grant.

The Mayo PPN Information Evening is a great opportunity for groups to promote their activities - please feel free to bring leaflets about your group's activities.

Bord Na Nog AGM.

Crossmolina Deel-Rovers Bord Na Nog AGM will take place on Thursday next 25th of January at 8pm in the Club House.

 

Kilmurray Card Results.

Lotto Results.

There was no winner of the Crossmolina Deel-Rovers GAA Club Lotto Jackpot on Saturday night 13th January. The numbers were 8 – 14 – 23 – 24 two punters matched three number Jonathan O’Boyle Carrowcloughy Crossmolina, Mary O’Boyle Carrowcloughy Crossmolina each win €75 The draw took place in the Thatch Bar.   Next weeks jackpot is €6,600. Patrick. Lyons Daly RIP

The death occurred on Thursday 11th January of Patrick. Lyons Daly Church View Crossmolina. His remains reposed at Hiney’s Funeral home on Tuesday evening with removal to St.Tiernan's Church, Crossmolina. Requiem Mass on Wednesday with Burial afterwards in Crossmolina Cemetery. Patrick son of the late Martin is survived by his mother Mary, brother’s Jim, Marty and Sean, sister’s Anne, Frances, Carmel, Marina, Regina, Helena, sisters – in – law, brothers – in – law, Aunt Francis, uncle Paddy, nieces, nephews, relations, extended family, friends and neighbours. May he rest in peace. 

 

Festival Short Listed for Award

Congratulations to Crossmolina St Patricks day committee for the St Patricks night festival who have been shortlisted for the All Ireland Community and Council Awards presented by IPB Insurance and LAMA in the category Best   Arts/Culture Initiative (Including Festival and Events) and also to John Cooney and Seamus Jordan who have been shortlisted in the Category of Community Volunteers Of The Year. The winners, representing their counties, will be announced by RTÉ’s Marty Morrissey at a gala awards ceremony at Croke Park Stadium on Saturday 3rd February 2018. 

 

Recent Deaths

Sympathy is extended to the families of Patrick Lyons Daly Church View Crossnolina, Ann Greehy New York sister of Michael Griffin The Boreen Crossmolina.

 

Gortnor Abbey U16 Girls in All -IrelandWell done to the U16 Gortnor Abbey Girls basketball team on reaching the All-Ireland Cup final and the All-Ireland League semi-final. The girls travelled to Dundalk for their first cup game, beating St Louis of Dundalk by 13 points. They went on to win a home game against Larkins CC, the final score being 50-22. For their semi-final, they played Colaiste Pobail Setanta in University of Limerick. An intense first half left the score 26-20 in favour of Gortnor Abbey. A one sided second half saw Gortnor Abbey come out with a final score of 54-26, which led them to the All-Ireland Cup Final in Tallaght playing St Colmcilles Knocklyon on Tuesday 23rd of January. 

Following on from their success in the Cup Competition the Gortnor Abbey girls made the most of their home advantage in the All-Ireland League play-offs on Saturday January 13th. They played three games in total. The first game was against Mohill Community School where the final score was 41-21. They went on to win their second game against Wilsons Hospital dominating the game from start to finish, leaving them nearly scoreless with a scoreline of 59-4. The girls proceeded to win their final match against Loreto Cavan, finishing the long day with a score of 62-26. After coming out on top of Pool A play-offs, the girls will advance to the All-Ireland League semi-final in Tallaght This game will take place on January 31st against St Marys, Macroom.

 

Festival News.

The St. Patrick's Festival Of Lights 2018 will have the Electric Light Parade on March 17th at 7:30pm and a "LIGHT the NIGHT" 5K Run on March 16th. This is a fundraiser for the proposed Nephin Run Track. Full details on www.lamaawards.org. The dates for the Summer Community Festival will be July 18th - 22nd. Jordan’s Debut

Jordan Flynn made his first start with Mayo senior footballer in the FBD League against Leitrim in Castlebar on Wednesday night last. The Game ended in a draw with a late Leitrim Goal in wet miserable conditions. Michael Moyles former Crossmolina and Mayo player is the Leitrim trainer this year  

 

Died in England 

Ena Hazell, nee Rowland of Derra Upper, Keenagh and Woodstock Oxfordshire died on December 20th 2017 shortly before her 90th birthday. She was the second youngest and last survivor of the 13 children of the late Phelim and Brigid, nee Gallagher, Rowland of Derra Upper. Her siblings that had remained in Ireland were her brothers Tom (Derra Upper), Jimmy (Castlebar), Michael (Roscommon), William (Clontarf) and her sister Chris Marley (Islandmore). She is survived by her husband Ray, son Sean, grandchildren William and Sophie. Her Requiem Mass was celebrated on January 5th 2018 in her local parish church of St Hugh of Lincoln, Woodstock by her nephew Monsignor Phelim Rowland after which her remains were interred locally. She was loved coming home to Ireland, meeting and socializing with old friends and neighbours but was deprived of this and other interests because of Alzheimers in her latter years.

Mid Killala regional pioneer dinner dance will b held in Hineys Upper Deck on Friday night 23rd February. Music by Sweeney Mac band. Tickets can be got off Maeve Tierney Crossmolina. T.P.Loftus Killmurray. Mary Granaghan Keenagh. 

 

North West Fitness academy

North West Fitness academy are helping us out for the St. Patrick's "LIGHT the NIGHT" 5k on March 16th, they are starting a free class next Saturday morning at 10am for anyone that wants to go from the couch to the 5k on March 16th.
