Casting for OsKars
Hollywood is coming to North Mayo in a very exciting concept called ‘The Oskars’. It’s really, really innovative and it’s something different as explained by event organiser Kevin Rowe.’We train ordinary, everyday Joe Soaps over a five or six week period and teach them about scripts and characters and the basic in acting techniques and then we split them into teams. We produce seven or eight movies, each about 10 minutes in length and in them, they re-enact some of the most iconic scenes from some of the best known films. The mini-films are professionally shot by an experienced crew and we collaborate with some noted Irish filmmakers on the
productions. Some of the movies we feature are The Godfather, The Field, The Snapper, The Hangover, the Full Monty and Bridesmaids – there’s something there for everybody. Each movie takes five or six hours to produce and we shoot it in locations around the community we are working with. It’s also an opportunity for sponsors to get involved and their locations can be featured in the films. Then we have an end event night called ‘A night at the OsKars’ which is a huge event. They get their photos taken and get interviewed on the red carpet and then go in and watch the movies with everyone else for the first time. At the end of the night then, there is an
award ceremony where we hand out the awards for the Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actress, Best Extra etc.” Gortnor Abbey are running this novel fundraiser to help develop an all-weather state of the art grass sportsground. We are asking the public, all ages to come on board in some capacity. We are looking for budding actors, producers, location scouts, make-up artists, fundraisers etc., to help us achieve our goal. We had a great information evening last week and sincerely thank all
who turned out. Casting is taking place on Friday next Sept 21st from 7pm onwards. Please phone 087-2886708 or 09631194 for details or follow ‘Gortnor Abbey Oskars’ on facebook
