Brave Kilmurry Under 12s Unlucky To Lose
The great football odyssey for Kilmurry Under 12 Boys came to an end at the last 16 stage of the SFAI Skechers National Cup. Despite being cheered on by the largest crowd ever at a Kilmurry Youths match the boys were unlucky to lose 1-0 to Aisling Annacotty from the Limerick District League.
The Annacotty team’s sharpness from playing regular League matches was evident early on. Kilmurry on the other hand hadn’t been in League action since last October. However Kilmurry almost scored after 5 minutes when Kobe McDonald broke away , his cross evaded the in running Seán ÓG Mc Guinness but also evaded the Annacotty keeper , Anton Donohoe , and rolled just wide . Soon afterwards Annacotty struck for what turned out to be the only goal of the match. Tristan Connolly took advantage of a mix up in the Kilmurry defence to round keeper Oisín Langan and score.
This setback stunned the Kilmurry team and their supporters but these players showed the great heart that has been a hallmark of their campaign. On three occasions before half time Kilmurry almost equalized. In quick succession Kilmurry hit the underside of the crossbar and had the ball cleared off the line by an Annacotty defender and then a close range header from Dylan Flynn hit the post. The Annacotty keeper then did well to push the ball over from a Kobe Mc Donald free kick.
The second half was a hard fought affair with very few clear-cut chances for either team. A fine effort from Kobe Mc Donald which hit the side netting and a last minute header from Dylan Flynn were the closest Kilmurry came to equalizing. Keeper Oisín Langan Kevin Walsh. Josh Moyles and Mark Sheerin defended stoutly against the lively Annacotty forwards. Midfielders Oisín Deane, Seán Óg Mc Guinness. Luke Williams and Dylan Flynn worked tirelessly for their team while up front Kobe Mc Donald was a constant threat to the Annacotty defence. Substitutes Tony Carey and Luke Maloney tried their best to make the breakthrough for Kilmurry. Tom Gough, Joey Keane and Darragh Duffy were also members of this panel which reached a level never before achieved by a Kilmurry Boys’ team.
Well done to everyone involved in this great achievement particularly John Moyles and Paul Williams whose management and coaching of the team has been exemplary. Thanks to everyone who supported the team not just in Kilmurry but also at matches all over the country.
