Rice College got off to perfect start in this Connacht Colleges U17 Final in Bekan on Tuesday last with a goal after three minuets from Evan Durkan who added on a point minuets later. St Tiernans got a grip in midfield and Darragh Duffy scored a cracking goal after six minuets with defenders on top in the very slippery conditions after a very heavy shower that lasted for the opening thirty minuets. Scores were limited Evan Durkan and Shane Brennan pointed for the west mayo side Adam Naughton and Aaron Coggins tacked on points each in the closing minuets of the half to leave the half time score Rice College 1 – 3, St Tiernans 1- 2. A Oisin Deane Goal in 35th minute was the tonic his side needed as Evan Durkan and Aaron Burke tied up the score with points each. The introduction of Liam Clancy and Ethan Reilly into the attack added more fire power, Reilly contributing three points and Clancy taken down in the square for a penalty which Oisin Deane dispatched to the net. Aaron Coggins and Dara Walsh added points, Ethan McGing tacked on two points but it was too little to late, St Tiernan’s were worthy winner after an entertaining contest .
